Despite it being a slow reading month, I’d say overall it was great in terms of content. The Vanishing Half, a contemporary fiction novel, kicked off February with a strong start. Both Reckless Girls and A Slow Fire Burning were quick and fun thrillers, and I’m surprised by how much I liked them both.
core of the short story collection are a series of linked stories exploring the stories and love affairs of three characters, each suffering in their own inner turmoil. These interconnected stories are surrounded by the tales of a nanny, a group of teenagers, and young adults dealing with death and love. What each of the stories share is a dichotomy of love and violence.
I tell myself I’m not a Halloween person, and yet every September I find myself impatiently waiting for October. The world is getting moodier, and usually so am I. With the dying leaves comes bursts of color and the innate urge to be festive af. And I am not immune to this festivity.
